Neighborhood Minervabuurt and Apollobuurt

Joke on Minervabuurt and Apollobuurt

Apollobuurt

If you ask me my favorite place to live in Amsterdam, it’s without a doubt the Minervabuurt and Apollobuurt. These neighborhoods in Oud-Zuid have everything I’m looking for—peace, space, greenery, and the city within reach.

Every time I drive down Minervalaan, it feels like coming home. The wide avenues, stately buildings, and green surroundings give the neighborhood a special feel. The architecture is a beautiful mix of Amsterdam School and classical influences. Many houses date from the 1920s and 30s, and you feel the history everywhere—for example, in the iconic building of the Gerrit van der Veencollege.

Beethovenstraat is my go-to spot for daily shopping and a pleasant afternoon. Here I find everything I need—from a good bakery to a quality fish shop. And if I want a treat, I stop at Et Claire, a French patisserie, for coffee and something sweet.

As a book lover, I often stop at Boekhandel Van Rossum—a charming bookstore that has existed for generations. This mix of quality, tradition, and personal atmosphere makes the neighborhood so appealing.

Culinary options are excellent too. Whether a lunch at Margaux, dinner at Ferilli’s, or a drink at Bar Kaspar—it’s all around the corner.

Right next to Minervabuurt is Apollobuurt, which feels like an extension of my world. Designed by Berlage, you see it in the wide streets and spacious homes. Stately townhouses and luxury apartments convey peace and class.

For evening walks, I often choose Apollolaan. It’s one of the most beautiful avenues in the city, with impressive buildings, greenery, and a nearly serene atmosphere. Sometimes I end at the Garden Terrace at the Hilton—quiet and perfect on warm summer evenings.

What I value about living in Minerva and Apollobuurt is how central they are. A few minutes to De Pijp, Museum Quarter, or Zuidas—or a bike ride to the center. Vondelpark, Beatrixpark, and Amsterdam Forest are nearby. These neighborhoods combine luxury, comfort, and coziness—you’re happy to live here every day.

Cycling is easy everywhere, and public transport and the A10 ring road are close, making daily life flexible and convenient.
