Neighborhood Nieuwendammerdijk
Anne about Nieuwendammerdijk
Nieuwendammerdijk feels to me like a place where time slows down a little. The moment I start walking there, I notice the beautiful wooden houses and the characterful dike homes, and every time I think: this might just be the most intimate corner of Amsterdam-Noord.

It’s peaceful, warm, and friendly
It’s peaceful, warm, and friendly — almost village-like. The water really sets the tone of the neighbourhood. Along the dike, you look out over the canal, where small boats and houseboats create a lively yet relaxed view.
My favourite spots
One of my favourite spots here is Café ’t Sluisje — a true icon on the dike. For me, it’s the beating heart of this neighbourhood. You can stop by for a morning coffee in the sunshine or enjoy a drink by the water while boats gently float by.

Ideal for families
And within just a few minutes, you’re surrounded by greenery. The Vliegenbos is around the corner, and the Twiske is also easy to reach. For me, Nieuwendammerdijk is that perfect mix of history, local charm, and nature — all within easy reach, yet with the tranquillity of a small village. Ideal for families!
