Neighborhood Rijnbuurt

Rijnbuurt

Rijnbuurt is truly my neighborhood. I was born here, grew up here, and never left! It lies between the Amstel and Rivierenbuurt. What makes it special is that it feels like a village in the city. Most of the neighborhood was built in the 1930s and reflects the Amsterdam School style. I love how you’re so close to the city center but can also quickly leave it.

Rijnbuurt was once known as an aging neighborhood, but that’s long outdated. Now, many starters and young families live here. Not surprising, given all the greenery and playgrounds. Martin Luther Kingpark, the summer theater festival De Parade, the beautifully landscaped Amstelpark with De Pure Markt, and Beatrixpark—all within walking distance.

It’s getting trendier too: luxury gyms like Sin City Boxing are very popular. Tennis enthusiasts have TVR around the corner. I like running along the Amstel, even if you’re not a runner, it’s beautiful.

Although Rijnbuurt can’t compete with the city center for nightlife, there are fun local pubs and eateries: Café Vrijdag on the Amsteldijk, Tap Zuid, Goos in Maasstraat, Café Blek in Waalstraat, and my neighborhood pub De Rijnkantine—simple but cozy. My friends and I often enjoy coffee at Vascobelo or Brandmeesters. For a more upscale restaurant, try Remouillage—an under-the-radar gem. Seafood lovers will be happy at Vis aan de Schelde!

I’d say go check it out—you’ll be surprised how much there is to see and do!
